National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a public service program under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Launched in 1969, the NSS aims to develop a sense of social and civic responsibility among students through various community service activities. The motto of NSS, “Not Me But You,” reflects the spirit of selfless service and the importance of community welfare over individual gain. By engaging in various outreach and development programs, NSS volunteers gain valuable life skills and contribute significantly to the betterment of society.

NSS Unit at WMO IG Arts and Science College

At WMO IG Arts and Science College, our NSS unit, proudly identified by the unique number 58, was established in 2013. Since its inception, our unit has been a cornerstone of community engagement and social responsibility within the college. Affiliated with Kannur University, our NSS unit embodies the university’s commitment to holistic education and community development.

Our NSS volunteers are dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of those around us. Through a variety of projects and initiatives, we strive to address local issues and support the underprivileged. From health camps and blood donation drives to environmental conservation efforts and literacy programs, our activities are as diverse as they are impactful.

One of our primary focuses is the upliftment of tribal communities in Wayanad, where our college is located. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by these communities, our NSS unit has initiated several programs aimed at improving their quality of life. One of the highlights of our NSS unit is the annual community service camp. These camps offer our volunteers an immersive experience in rural areas, where they work on projects like building infrastructure, promoting hygiene, and educating children. These camps not only benefit the communities we serve but also provide our students with a profound understanding of the challenges faced by different segments of society.

In addition to these initiatives, our NSS unit actively participates in national observances and campaigns, such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, International Yoga Day, and National Voters’ Day. These activities help inculcate a sense of patriotism and social responsibility among our students. Our NSS unit is more than just a service program; it is a platform for personal growth and community building. By participating in NSS activities, our students develop leadership skills, teamwork, and a deep sense of empathy. They learn the value of hard work, perseverance, and the joy of giving back to society.

At WMO IG Arts and Science College, the NSS unit stands as a testament to our commitment to creating socially responsible citizens who are ready to contribute positively to the world. Through our continuous efforts and dedication, we aim to inspire a new generation of young leaders who will carry forward the legacy of “Not Me But You.”
